Background

Carrying out researches to bring about solutions to problems and summoning the know-how to deal with specific issues has been a challenge to certain individuals in our communities and even amongst learners at our school. Learners sometimes fail to carry out homework assignments because they lack the skills needed to gather information. Thus many of them score lower marks, make uninformed decisions, keep falling in old traps and do not succeed in life. A thorough research on the ways of gathering information will therefore help bring about an end to this challenge.

The CALA

The CALA has two separate parts, Part A and B. You need to complete both parts.

Part A

-           Research on the ways of gathering information

-           Research on the usefulness of various sources of information

-           In your research include interviews, record notes, use ICT tools, take pictures and make recordings of your findings on the ways of managing these challenges at your school.

Part B

-           Using the information in Part A, construct a questionnaire that can help reduce the challenges you have identified in part A.

-           Write notes or explain orally about your findings.

How you will be assessed

-           To assess your presentation, your facilitator will consider your research materials, explanations about your questionnaire as well as your findings that you have made.

-           Achievement standards specific to this CALA will be provided so that you are aware of the assessment criteria.
